Random Thoughts from the Odd Mind of a Science Fiction Author
Aug 4, 2017
The other day I was listing to a radio program on my drive to Tampa. I heard a stand-up comic talk about the process of honing his craft. When you first start out, he said, every set you do feels critical, like your entire future hangs on every word. Later, you get to a point where you've bombed so much that you just don't care anymore. This is the point where you really start to develop, because you stop over thinking everything and more of yourself comes out in your work. I have to assume the same must be true of writing, though I would still be in the early stages. With every line I write, I feel the pressure—there's a lot riding on this. I want to get to the point where I can quit my day job and do this full time. Now.
